Australian Government release updated skilled migration occupation list every year depending on the market demand to fill shortages in various regions of Australia. This system is used as a part of a system based on points for Australian immigration. In order to immigrate to Australia as a skilled worker, interested candidates need to select or nominate a particular occupation.
The occupation of the candidate must have relevancy with the experience from the CSOL i.e., Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List. In case the candidate wish to apply for Australia PR Visa via a general skilled immigration and he/she doesn’t have a nomination from any Australia’s Territory or State, then he/she have to select an occupation from the SOL.

What is the Skilled Migration Occupation List?
Occupations which are in high demand in Australia are considered under SOL. This system has been built for those candidates who are skilled and are seeking long-term and short-term jobs in Australia. The list consists of occupations which are described in STSOL and MLTSSL. These Visas can be obtained by those candidates who are qualified for working or training in an eligible skilled occupation.
The SOL consists combination of all skilled eligible occupations which comprises the below mentioned:

ANZSCO - Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations Code for every occupation

Specifies if the occupation is present on the following:

1) MLTSSL: Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List
The Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List is for the skilled migration to Australia. Visa Subclass 189 allows the candidates to migrate to Australia based on their skills, even if they don’t have sponsorship from the employer or the state. Earlier this list was known as Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

2) STSOL: Short term Skilled Occupation List
There are about 215 occupations in the Short-term Skilled Occupation List. Earlier, this list was known as the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL).
Following are the Visas for which you can apply under the STSOL program:

• Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass 190
• Skilled Regional Provisional Visa Subclass 489
• Direct Entry through Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 186 Visa
• Visa Subclass 457 for Temporary Workers
• Training Subclass 407 Visas
  
  There are about 24 occupations which listed in STSOL which are eligible for the posts in:
   
• Regional Australia
• State Nomination Streams

3) RSMS ROL - Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Regional Occupation List.
This list is for regional migration programs and it deals in visa subclass 407, 489, TSS, and so on.

• The assessment authority for evaluation of skills
• Conditions which exclude the usage of occupation in specific circumstances. It must be noted that this only applicable for TSS and ENS Visa.

What Visas are available for candidates who are qualified to work in an eligible occupation in Australia?
Here is the list of Australian Visas which are available for candidates who are qualified to train/work in an eligible skilled occupation in Australia along with fulfilling other requirements:

• RSMS – Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Subclass 187 Visa
• Points-tested stream – Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa
• Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visa
• Training Subclass 407 Visa
• TSS – Temporary Skill Shortage Subclass 482 Visa
• Provisional Graduate Subclass 485 Work Visa
• Provisional Skilled Regional Subclass 489 Visa
• Provisional Skilled Regional Work Subclass 491 Visa
• Provisional Employer-Sponsored Skilled Regional Subclass 494 Visa

What are the requirements to qualify for the above mentioned Visas?
In order to be eligible for these Visas, the candidate must:

• Be more than 18 years and below 45 years of age. This condition isn’t applied in Provisional Graduate Subclass 485 Work Visa as it allows the candidates below 50 years to apply 
• Receive an ITA i.e., invitation to apply. 
• Fulfill the Score criteria 
• Meet the skill/study requirements
• Hold work experience in the skilled occupation. 
• Be proficient in English Language at a competent level. 
• Meet the character requirements. 
• Meet the health requirements. 

New PSOL 2022 - Priority Skilled Occupation List  

The list mentioned above is applicable for employer-sponsored subclass like: 

• TSS - Temporary Skill Shortage Subclass 482 Visa 
• Provisional Employer-Sponsored Skilled Regional Subclass 494 Visa 
• ENS - Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 186 Visa
• RSMS - Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Subclass 187 Visa 

The above list is not applicable for those candidates who apply via the following Visa streams:

• Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa
• Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visa
• Provisional Skilled Regional Work Subclass 491 Visa
